After the Holocaust, the jewish people could not imediatly go back to the lives they led before. Many found their homes destroyed or taken over by others and their businesses no longer existing. Also, many people had lost family members or been separated from their children or spouses. Those who were looking for their families went to DP's (displaced persons camps), where they would take a picture of you holding up your name and post it for other people to recognize. About 250,000 jewish people moved to DP's, and over 80,000 jewish DPs moved to the United States. Today there are hundreds of museums and memorials dedicated to the holocaust all over the world.
